Valentine's weekend with the cool kids
Christopher and I just arrived back from a super fun weekend in Brentwood Bay (on Vancouver Island) "babysitting" my teenage cousins Lara and Aaron while mum and dad had a romantic weekend getaway in Tofino. We did lots of lounging around the house, tending to the woodstove (like watching what happens when you toss in some unpopped popcorn kernels), making sure we had our homework done so we could go watch the new 3-D Coraline movie (awesome), and eating WAY too much candy....
Ups and downs...
I'm pouting right now because I really wanted to go to LETC spin class tonight. I was all psyched to go until I realized at the last minute that I had no way to get there! I'm so used to having my own vehicle, but my brother has taken the "family" car down to Portland, Oregon for the next few months. Saves me money, but I've definitely left myself in the lurch a few times recently. Oh well. Lots of transitions happening....
Brazil FAST Triathlon
TEAM CANADA COMES HOME WITH THE GOLD! Wow, what an incredible experience in Brazil. A very special thanks to Virgilio and all the race organizers and sponsors who put this on. I must say, I didn't want to come home! But would've rather stayed on the sandy beach under the cloudless sky with my doce de leite churro (only allowed after the race of course)....
Back from Athens
Arrived back from a short visit to Athens late last night- a Christmas present to "the kids" from my folks. My first impression of the city was stepping out of the Monastiraki subway station to a nighttime view of the plaza of the same name with modern shops, next to dilapidated buildings, a super old little church and the Acropolis blazing with light in the background. Think this but at night and the Acropolis looks like this. It literally took my breath away.
