Ironman 70.3 Miami

Since arriving back in Vancouver after the 70.3 World Champs in Vegas, I continued to ride my post-race high with probably my most solid training block of the year. I was feeling super strong and fit. Mid-October I was amazed at how full of beans I still felt heading into what is usually a much anticipated rest week. I was ready for Coach Bjoern to keep piling it on! A test run at the Diva 10k showed my running form was much improved from last year (see my race report).

With my SpeedConcept packed for flying (by my wonderful friends at West Point Multisport. I know, I feel like such a princess sometimes having them pack my bike for me, but they do such a good job, and I trust them with my precious steed!), I flew on the red-eye to Miami. I always curse myself after the fact for flying through the night, but never learn my lesson. As tired as I may be, I have a really hard time sleeping on planes and always end up losing an entire night's sleep. I had a few hours to caffeinate myself at the Miami airport Thursday morning while waiting for Jill, my best friend/manager, to arrive from Toronto. She had worked her magic and gotten us some amazing accommodation for our stay, starting out at the Intercontinental Hotel located across the street from the race site. (Post-race we were to move to Miami Beach for some Halloween party-time and to soak up some rays in our bikinis, but I'll get to that later ;) )

Diva on the Run 10k

Place (overall):
1st
Finish Time: 38:11
Date: 16 Oct 2011

3rd win at the annual Diva 10k! I love this low key race running with so many fantastic women on familiar ground. The sun was shining and many of my teammates (Steph, Anita, Jennifer, Christina and Richele) were out running the 10k and half marathon as well.

Sponsor Appreciation Night at West Point Multisport

When I lined up on the start line of my very fist half iron tri this spring, I did not even fathom that I would finish my season 11th in the world. What a journey. Last fall, amidst some major life changes, Bjoern and Steph Ossenbrink convinced me to step back in to the world of triathlon. I spent my winter balancing a bit of training, the end of a tough graduate programme and a whole new life. I started off my race season with a decisive victory at Shawnigan Lake and never looked back.

Ironman 70.3 World Championships

Place (overall): 11th
Finish Time: 4:39
Date: 11 Sep 2011

What an experience to finish 11th place at the Ironman 70.3 World Championships (2nd Canadian)! Only two weeks before race day, I learned that I had made the cut to join the total of 30 women at the World Champs. This day turned out to be not a perfect race, but a great solid showing at my first time around. I can't wait to get back to Vegas in September 2012 for a rematch!!
