Crit night in pink

Boy it feels good to run. Just back from my last “walk/run” of 4.5min run/30sec walk before I get to run a WHOLE 30 minutes straight on Friday! The weather has turned wet here in Vancouver, but I quite enjoyed the cool rain on my run. Now I’m savouring a warm cup of tea….

Last night I headed out to the Tuesday night Crit race out at UBC for unfortunately only the second time this season. As the Glotman-Simpson Cycling Team has teamed up with West Point Cycles, I’ve been graciously invited to ride with them this season. It’s been a very interesting experience, though the only other race I’ve done with them so far is the Westside Classic- my 2nd road race ever (race report to follow)! Boy I have a lot to learn and some aspects of team strategy are not as intuitive as I thought. I’m used to just powering through on my own, so teamwork and strategy are new elements for me. Anyway, there were some great tactics put to use last night and we ended up taking 1st, 4th and 5th. Everyone on the team is super supportive and understanding. Hopefully by Superweek I’ll have a bit more strength and a better comprehension of the do’s and don’ts of team racing to contribute a bit more.

I’m also hoping to get some photos of my new PINK West Point kit which I am LOVING- which has probably just shocked many an old friend back East if any of you are reading this. It’s definitely getting a lot of attention and comments. I don’t think they know it, but Team Pink has definitely been integral in helping me overcome my fear/horror of pink. I fought Tim and Sara for a whole year to stay out of their pink and white monstrosity, but I have to admit as soon as I stepped into it I was hooked. However besides the pink speed laces, that’s as far as it’s going at this point just in case you were expecting Rachel to show up in a horrifying pink sundress or some similar craziness. You can only dream, and laugh.
